Hostel 1, H1, IITB, Mumbai/Bombay, INDIA

Phots from H1, IIT, Bombay, INDIA.

H1 is also known as the "Queen of the Campus",
with spacious rooms, loungue, and a TV room.
Every graduate students dreams.
Some sit and watch TV all day, some
read the newspapers, some play carrom, but
all eat in the Mess and Canteen and
are working on a problem for their PhD.

Varghese could make an omlette to end all omlettes
in H1 Canteen.

The last wing boasted of a Garden and
a Nursery run by Subba Raju, full of
Saplings to be planted on the H1 and H4 Hills.

Some remember a hostel by the "Ficus Hispida" (tall fig) tree
in the last wing, frequented by bats in the evening.
The "Wild Badam" tree, whose leaves
turn red in autumn, and a giant Banyan tree
in the cycle stand. Behind the hostel was
the H1 hill, there grew "Toddy Palm Trees".

Outside the Hostel was the giant canopy of a "Rain Tree"
providing shade to the sundry and a old mochi.

Then opposite the gate was a Jackfruit tree,
and a Breadfruit tree,
No one, never did see any bread fruit on it though.
The Kanchans, Gul Mohor and Copper Pods lined the
road outside the hostel, which I am
sure you will see in these photos.

These are some of my favourite trees.

"A Jungle is known by its trees"
- Old Kol Dongri saying.
